Cause of Heart Diseases

There are some people who grow discouraged whenever they think about the various causes of heart disease. This is because it sometimes seems as though uncontrollable things dictate your heart’s health. Of course, there are some causes of heart disease that you are not going to be able to control, such as a genetics, race, gender and age. All of these things definitely play a role in your heart’s health.

There is some good news though. This is that there are a lot of reasons for heart disease that you can directly control. Oftentimes, all it takes is a healthy lifestyle, even if you are at risk due to other uncontrollable factors.

Some of the controllable reasons why you may develop heart disease include:

  1. If you have high blood pressure you are causing your heart to have to work harder. This may possibly cause microscopic damage to your heart’s arteries. These are what allow fatty plaques to start forming. For this reason you really should ask your doctor what your normal blood pressure should be. Some people tend to run high and they should get their blood pressure checked on a regular basis. If your doctor decides to prescribe you a medication for your blood pressure then you need to take it exactly as prescribed. You can also help yourself by loosing any extra weight that you may be carrying around in you and by developing an active lifestyle.
  2. If you have high cholesterol it may be because of your lifestyle. Once your doctor tells you what your cholesterol levels should be, you should then proceed to have them checked regularly. When your doctor places you on a diet and medication regimen, you really need to be sure that you follow it.
  3. You should already know that science has proven that smoking damages both your heart and your lungs. Of course, studies have also proven that smoking is as addictive as crack cocaine. For this reason, when you decide to finally stop smoking you are going to need a lot of support from your family, friends, and coworkers. There are also online and real world support groups available wherein you can talk to other people who have quit smoking. This is a good idea because they can tell you how they were able to stop smoking. Another great person to help support you in your decision to stop smoking is your family physician. Sometimes when they prescribe a nicotine patch your chances of succeeding will increase.
  4. Many people today are overweight and this can also put a strain on your heart. Of course we already know that it is not easy to loose weight. All you have to do is look at the booming market for diet and exercise products to see this for yourself. For this reason, it is important that you find a way in which to loose weight that works for you. This does not have to be something that you do overnight. In fact, if you loose weight too quickly you will probably just gain it right back again. It is important to understand that even loosing just a modest amount of weight will ease the stress that your heart is under.

As you can clearly see, there are a lot of things that can cause heart disease. While you cannot control all of these things, there are definitely some things that you can control. So, now is a good time to schedule yourself a physical in order that you can talk to your doctor about heart disease and find out what they recommend that you do in order to minimize your risk for heart problems.
